I'm sorry for your loss.    Yes, you certainly can file jointly if your spouse died anytime during the tax year.

If you have a Qualifying Child then you can also file as a "Qualifying Widow(er)" with child for the two years following your spouses death that has an increased standard deduction.

I'm sorry for your loss.    Yes, you certainly can file jointly if your spouse died anytime during the tax year.

I am trying to file jointly because my spouse died but my return keeps getting rejected.  I indicated he had past on Feb 7 2018, but they say you can have a person deceased as the primary or secondary on a tax return!!! How do you file jointly if you cant put him in turbo tax?

I am referring to the question but giving you my case.  I indicated that he pasted on Feb 7, 2018 on my return.  I am wanting to know why its being rejected by the SSA?  I am a different user 🙂

@ebearden2000 - Do you mean rejected by the IRS?  What is the reject code?

Probably the SSA has locked the SSN so the IRS will not allow an e-file with the SSN.   You can only print and mail the return.
