In 2016 I received a $189 Property Tax Relief check from the State of New York. Do I have to include this amount somewhere, and if so where?

This amount is considered to reduce the amount of property taxes paid.

If you itemize your deductions, you should reduce the amount of real estate taxes paid by $189.

If you do not itemize deductions, you do not have to do anything with this.

Will that be a problem since the 1098 won't match what I'm reporting?
