Received deceased husbands pension and 1099-R. Is that taxable amt used in the 1099-R spot?

It depends...If the amount is listed there as taxable amount, you would use that spot.  If the form only shows gross distribution (box 1) and no taxable amount is listed in box 2a, please leave that field blank. In fact, enter the form in TurboTax exactly as it appears and do not alter any fields. You will be asked additional questions about the pension and the program will determine taxable for you. 

Data entry just in case:

  1. Federal Taxes
  2. Wages and Income
  3. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  4. Select IRA, 401(k), Pension Plans (1099-R)
