Job related travel expenses.

I worked at an Air Force base as a contractor. I went to another state for a week for a training class. I had expenses for lodging, rental car, gas, and airport parking. Do they count as a deduction?

Job related travel expenses.

Yes, if the training class was mandatory for your job, then you can enter them as job-related expenses. You can use the steps below to get to the area to enter this information.

To Enter Your Job-Related Expenses:

1. Select "Federal" at the top of the page

2. Select the "Deductions & Credits" sub-tab

3. Scroll down to "Employment Expenses" and select "Show More"

4. Select "Start/Revisit" next to "Job-Related Expenses"

5. Select "Edit" next to your occupation(Or enter it when asked)

6. Continue through the next few screens answering questions until you are asked to enter your vehicle info

7. If you drove you can also deduct mileage when you get to that screen

8. Choose to enter your actual expenses when asked and you will arrive to a screen to enter gas expenses, tire expenses, oil expenses, parking etc.
