Wondering if I can still claim my 17 year old daughter as a dependent. She lives at home, works and receives a W-2. We still support her and she does not contribute to any bills. She wants to file her taxes for her refund and I was told she can without it affecting me claiming her as a dependent as long as she checks the box that someone else can claim her. I was also told I can only claim her if she doesn’t make over a certain amount and if she does make over the amount that as long as she lives at home and we support her I can still claim her. Any info would help tremendously! Thanks!

If she is only 17 - it doesn't matter how much she makes, you can claim her. She can file her own return to get her refund, and all she needs to do is mark the Someone else can claim me box. You can and should claim her as your dependent on your return. You will get the $500 credit and she will get her refund.
