Why TurboTax is not allowing American Opportunity Credit

Hi,

I am a full time student and did internship during summer.

After entering the details in my 1098-T, Turbotax is showing that I don't qualify for AOC.

Reasons given:

Your enrollment status was less than half-time.
You weren't enrolled in a degree program.
You're under age 24 and don't support yourself. You're claimed as a dependent on another person's tax return, like your parents.
You're filing as married filing separate.
Your income is more than $90,000 ($180,000 if you file a joint return).

None of those are correct. I am full time student. I am enrolled in a degree program. I am under 24 and not claimed as a dependent on my parents return (i confirmed with them). I am filing single and income is less than $90,000 (obviously!).

I don't understand why I don't qualify.  Please help. Thank you.

Go back through the personal information section and make sure you are not marked as "somebody else could claim me". Double check filing status.

Then go back through the college section and make sure your 1098-T is correctly marked as full time student.

Thank you for your help.

I have verified both the sections. I already have the correct selection there.

I have answered no for "Another taxpayer can claim me as a dependent on their tax return" question in .

I have answered yes for "Was Your Enrollment Status for 2023 At Least Half-Time?" in the 1098-T section.

Not sure how to proceed.

Maybe some data got stuck where it should not. Follow these steps:

Online version:

A full or corrupted cache can cause problems in TurboTax, so sometimes you need to clear your cache (that is, remove these temporary files).

For stuck information follow these steps:

  1. Delete the form/ worksheet- if possible, see How to Delete
  2. Log out of your return and try one or more of the following:
    • Don't use Internet Explorer.
    • Clear cache and cookies,
    • Sign in using a different browser.
    • Sign in using a different device.
  3. Log back into your return.
    • Enter the information again.

Desktop version:

  1. Delete the form
  2. Save your return while closing the program.
  3. Update the program
  4. Open
  5. Enter the information again.
