I can tell you how to look at your Free Edition return to see if you have anything that might have caused it to upgrade.   See if you have anything on Schedules 1-3, for instance.

TurboTax has 2 free products.  If it turns out you can't use regular Free Edition, we can tell you about the other free product--the TurboTax IRS Free File Program--that has no form limitations if you qualify to use it.

First look at your current return:

  • Open your return, then go to the left menu column.
  • Click on TAX TOOLS, then TOOLS.
  • In the Tools window, choose "View Tax Summary."
  • When the Summary window appears, go back to the left column and click "Preview Form 1040".
  • The Form 1040 worksheet and Schedules should appear.
