Not necessarily. If there are no changes to the state return, you would not need to amend your return.
Even though the federal joint return should have been sent as the attachment to your married filing separately state return, I recommend waiting and letting the FTB process your return. They will send you a correspondence if they need to have a copy of the federal joint return.
