What would cause a return to sit on pending and not accepted or rejected

Where exactly are you seeing the word "pending?"  Did you recently efile, and that is the word displayed for the efile status on your Tax Home page?     Or do you mean your return is still being processed when you look at the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool?
