What year is "last year"?
If your spouse died in 2023 and you did not remarry before the end of 2023, you file your 2023 tax return as married filing jointly. It doesn't matter whether your spouse worked or not.
In order to e-file your joint 2023 tax return you have to enter the AGI from your 2022 tax return and your spouse's 2022 tax return. That's the amount on Form 1040 line 11 of whatever 2022 tax return each of you filed, whether it was a joint return or separate returns. If you filed a joint return for 2022, your spouse's 2022 AGI will be the same as your own 2022 AGI. If you did not file jointly for 2022, and your spouse did not file a 2022 tax return, enter zero for your spouse's 2022 AGI.
