What if I itemize for california but take standard deduction for Fed?

I donated a vehicle and got issued 1098-C. I plan to take federal deduction but itemization for California. I was told in order to itemize in California I need to file Form Schedule A

If I submit a federal schedule A and I take standard deduction for IRS but itemized for california, I only submit the federal schedule A to california but not to the IRS? So even though the federal form is IRS form I only need to send it to california?

So wouldn't California be confused since they get a copy of federal tax return too but I took standard deduction then they see a schedule A attached?

Itemize on the federal return. TurboTax will give you the standard deduction for federal if more than your itemized deductions and will give you the itemized deduction on your California return. California won’t be confused.

Thanks but will turbotax submit the itemized form to federal even though the form is created and I selected standard deduction?

No. The itemized deductions will only appear on the state return.
