What does "were all of your wages and/or your self employment income earned in New York State?"

I lived in Queens and worked in Connecticut (company based in CT). I Should I answer no to this question and allocate 0% to NY state on my wages earned in 2022?

What does "were all of your wages and/or your self employment income earned in New York State?"

Yes, yes.

1. Reference: Full-year New York State resident forms and instructions.

2. Tax liability in CT. If the program asks-

Follow these steps:

  1. To locate your tax liability for CT
  2. Log into your return
  3. Select state taxes
  4. Enter the non-resident CT  for which you need the liability
  5. On the left, go to Tax Tools
  6. Select Tools
  7. Select View Tax Summary
  8. You will see Summary of your  CT Return at the top.
  9. Locate the line that says Total Tax
  10. Write that number down.
  11. Return to your resident NY return and enter that number where it asks for the liability for CT.

Correct for no since you worked out of state, but 100% for NY. NY begins with the federal AGI and makes adjustments from there. The program needs to know about credit for other states. You live in NY so they get to tax all income earned while living there. However, they will give you a credit for the other state tax. The credit will be the lower of the state tax liabilities on the same taxable income. You may owe your resident state,  if they have a higher tax rate along with differences in how the taxable income is calculated.

Be sure to prepare the nonresident state return first for NY to give you proper credit for your CT tax paid. View both state returns and verify credit on NY.

Thank you! So it's 100% New York State income even though my company is not based in NY?

Also, I filed non-resident for CT. I still need to fill out Taxes paid to another state under Crdit for Taxes paid while filing NY?
