We don’t estimate our taxes, so why are we being penalized $60 for underpayment of estimated taxes?

I think there’s a glitch in this system, when I click on the (?) for more info it talks about natural disasters. We didn’t have any in our state.

You did not pay enough through your withholding during the year.   The IRS levies underpayment penalties if you don't withhold or pay enough tax on income received during each quarter. Even if you paid your tax bill in full by the April deadline or are getting a refund, you may still get an underpayment penalty.    Penalties

In general, you may owe the penalty for 2023 if the total of your withholding and timely estimated tax payments didn't equal at least the smaller of:

  • 90% of your 2023 tax, or
  • 100% of your 2022 tax. Your 2022 tax return must cover a 12-month period.
