W2 form-line 12 w

my employer did not donate any $ but the explanation of "w" on W2 line 12 is Employer contributions (including amounts the employee elected to contribute using a section 125 (cafeteria) plan) to your health savings account. Reported on Form 8889, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).

I am not sure of your question, but, yes, the amount reported with a code of "W" in box 12 on your W-2 is the sum of the employer's contributions to your HSA plus your contributions to your HSA via a salary reduction/payroll deduction agreement.

So, it's counter-intuitive, but in this case, your payroll deductions are also called "employer contributions" by the IRS (because your contributions and the employer's are both pre-tax and treated the same way).

If you don't have a code W entry in box 12 and you expect one, you need to ask your employer where the HSA contributions are listed. A few employers put them in box 14, but this causes problems for TurboTax because they can't be automatically found and handled there.
