W-2 allocation

I live and work in Massachusetts. The company I work for is in Rhode Island. I never worked in Rhode Island. My wages in box 1 is $57,450. In box 16 it says I made $47,700 in Massachusetts and $47,223 in Rhode Island. From my understanding, the amounts in box 16 should add up to box 1. Is my W-2 correct?

W-2 allocation

Yes and no. For the program to work correctly, yes-ish. For various state requirements, no. The states have received the form and know what it says. Some states require box 1 to equal box 16 for residents, others  require certain additions or subtractions. The employers jump through those hoops and send them the w2

All you can do is put the correct information in the program. The states should add up to box 1 or close. For example, NJ taxes pretax retirement savings so that would be added and end up as more than box 1 wages. I would guess your RI wages have a state difference for you.
