In the VA State (TurboTax Premier version), the VA State asks "Enter your Taxable Death Benefits". "Include death benefits received from an annuity contract if the amount is included in Taxable Federal Income". Then there are two boxes for myself & my wife labeled "Death Benefit Payments". These two boxes are the question... What info goes in these boxes?
I entered information from a 1099-R for an Annuity (mothers death) that was inherited in the Federal section of Turbo Tax.
Boxes 1, 2a, 4, 5, & 14 were entered in the federal TurboTax. Box 7 was code 4D & Total Distribution is checked.
I'm not sure what "Data" or numbers from my 1099-R goes in the VA State box? Does the "Taxable Amount" box 2a go in this box? Or does the Gross Distribution(box 1) ? Or something else ?
