For 2019, I filed for an extension in July 2020 (paper), then filed the 1040 in Oct. 2020 (paper). I was owed a large (>$8k) refund, and specified direct deposit (acct. info is correct). Refund has not been received. I was sent a letter from IRS in March 2021 saying they needed more time to "process your claim." Can I just record the amount as a payment on my 2020 return, even though I requested the refund? Is there another form I should file first?

FYI: the IRS2go app will only deal with 2020 refunds, not prior years.
Refunds from your 2019 tax return (either received or not received) are not reported at all on your 2020 tax return).
