Unemployment Benefit Tax Law Revision

I filed my federal income taxes prior to the change in the law for the unemployment tax exclusion.  I originally owed $4,000, but after the exclusion only owe $2,800.  I have not yet made a payment to the IRS.  I understand the IRS does not want filers in this situation to file an amended return.  Do I pay the full amount or the revised amount that I owe?

You should pay the full amount. However, you can pay your balance of $2,800. The IRS will automatically make adjustments to your account beginning mid May through the summer. You will receive a notice.
