TurboTax as a gift

I have given TurboTax as a Christmas gift to my husband for over 15 years.  

how can I give it to him now that it is online only?

You might find that stores (Costco, Staples, Office Max Best Buy) still sell boxes.  The box would contain a download code rather than a CD.  (They did this last year, I don't know about this year, but I think it is likely to catch impulse purchases.)

Or, you could buy the program online, print out the receipt and the activation code, and put it in a box or Christmas card.
