For 2023 taxes, I already made one small amendment several months back, which processed electronically. I now realized that I'd failed to enter a large deduction I was eligible for. I was curious what the impact would be if I amended again, so I started to Amend 2023, entered some guesstimate numbers to see the impact, then canceled the amendment. Later I came back and did it again with the final numbers.
First, despite cancelling the last amendment and starting a new one, it had my preliminary numbers already entered as deductions. OK, so I edited the numbers to the correct numbers and then finished the process and generated returns. First, for some reason I cannot e-file them and have to print them. And of course, it gives no instructions for how to do so. Fine.
But the 1040X (and the CA version) are wrong. They show the changes versus the guesstimate numbers THAT I CANCELED! Not versus the actual filed taxes. It's so broken. Is there any way to force the online TT to delete the most recent 2 1040X forms (and CA version) and regenerate them as a single new 1040X? Is there even any way to look back on the amendment history that TT thinks I've filed? I don't want to do them manually and risk getting it wrong.
Thank you for any help. Dealing with TT is such a nightmare.
