I don't use a password for the returns I have on my Mac Laptop.
When I try to transfer a 2020 return to 2021 deluxe, Turbotax asks for a password. I don't have a password. I don't use passwords on my laptop.

Do you have the 2020 software still installed? Run that then then use File->Open tax return to open the 2020 return. If that also asks for a password then it probably is password protected which is the default when saving the 2020 TurboTax file unless you checked the "save without password" box in the save dialog window.
I can open the 2020 tax return without a password. I did not password protect the 2020 return in TurboTax.
My 2021 Turbotax asks for a password when I try to transfer the 2020 return to the 2021 Turbotax program It will not transfer without a password. There was no password. How do I transfer this file?
No idea - never heard of it. I have transferred numerous 2020 .tax files (real tax returns and test returns) to 2021 and never have seen such a question.
Can you post a screenshot of that question?
One thought. If you accidentally saved the 2020 file with a password then if you look at my screenshot above there is a checkbox (Remember password - save to keychain) as default. So if that was not unchecked then it can be password protected but keychain is entering it for you when you open with the 2020 program.
Use Utilities Keychain Access.app to view the login keychain and see if there is a Turbotax keychain. If there is then you can double click on it and view the password.
