The cost basis for two stock transactions is unknown (box 1e) but Turbo Tax will not let me go forward. Keeps going back to this transaction.

You must have a cost basis even if it is 0 (zero) that makes the entire sale taxable. You should make all effort to find the basis form your own records, bast bank or broker statements, etc.
