Stock sales - how to change from Individual to Summary method after the fact?

What is the correct method of changing from individual stock sale entries to the summary method without having to start all over again?

After some experimenting it seems by going to the Capital Asset Sales worksheet(s) and clicking the "Check here if this summarizes multiple sales" box (on the far right) successfully causes the individual transaction to be treated as if they had been entered using the Summary method. Which then applies the transactions directly onto Schedule D. In fact this achieves a superior result because a record is retained on the worksheets of the individual transaction details - which are otherwise not reflected when someone instead enters transactions using the Summary method.

Is there some way in the Step-by-Step to toggle from Individual to Summary method, or is what I describe above the only potential solution?

Thanks,

SE
