Solar credit carry forward

I do not have any solar carry forward. Because of that, when I file my New  York State return, Turbo Tax tells me I cannot file electronically with New York. Also, I must go back and check the box that I do not have any carry forward. I did that several time, however, Turbo Tax tells me I have carry forward.

When I return to that screen the box is unchecked.

Solar credit carry forward

There may have been a mis-entry of information of data at some point, but try going down this path in Desktop, if you haven't already:

  1. Open TurboTax Desktop
  2. Select STATE TAXES in the banner
  3. Select New York
  4. Proceed through the state interview until you come to the Take a look at New York credits and taxes screen
  5. Scroll down to Other Tax Credits, and select Start or Update to the right of Nonrefundable Credits
  6. On the Nonrefundable Credits page, delete any entry next to Solar and Wind Energy Credit Carryover
  7. Select Continue
  8. On the Take a look at New York credits and taxes screen, select Continue

If this still doesn't work, delete your state return using the guidance in the TurboTax Help article How do I clear my state return in the TurboTax for Windows software?.  Your New York return will be deleted, but the New York program that you purchased won't be.
