Yes, you should file as Single.  Qualifying widow(er) status is a special filing status available to surviving spouses for two years following the year in which their spouse died.

Can I talk to a tax expert. I have always file separate from husband, but he passed last year due to Covid, can I file him on my taxes and check off the box as widow?

So I still use the Status single
