My child is 2 and has been diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency and suspected developmental delay. We adopted him in 2017 and are trying to determine if he is considered disabled when we claim him as a dependent.
If you son's doctor has declared him disabled then he would be considered disabled for income tax purposes. Typically a child is considered disabled if he/she receives monthly disability (SSI) checks. Not all conditions are considered disabled for Federal income tax purposes however State laws may differ.
