Should a Quickbooks import take over a half hour?

Import finally finished. The issue was that in Windows, behind the TurboTax Business app window, another window had launched asking for permission to access the file. It wasn't until I minimized the window to look at something else that it became visible. Once that was done, the initial import of just company info was very quick.

So lesson learned here: If your import is hanging, start minimizing windows to see if TT launched some hidden interactive panel that you need to respond to.

Should a Quickbooks import take over a half hour?

Note: We're well into an hour now. Still at "Reading  xxx.qbw."

This is the first time I'm importing. It's a file for a basic S-Corp that has existed for 15 years, so it's a 15-year file.

So two questions: Will it time out? And if so, I've read that importing is a one-time thing and a QB file can't be re-imported once an initial import has started. Where would that leave me on the import?

Secondly, for a longer-standing company with a large QB file, might it be better to export a backup, prune that backup to nothing earlier than the last fiscal year and just import that pruned file?
