Rec'd W-2 (back wages) & 1099-MISC (Box 3-pen/int) from lawsuit. 1040 Line 1 is 2x W2 value. Line 6 after adj from Sched 1 Line 22=W2+1099. Why doesn't 1040 Line 1=W2?

Line 1 should include the amount in Box 1 from the W-2, but only once. It should not be doubled. You may have entered it twice. Go back to the Wages & Salaries section and make sure you only have it listed once. Make sure that Line #7 is correctly showing the total of the 1099 and W-2. If not, there is something wrong.
