Where do I enter the taxes I paid on my unemployment benefits?

If you did not see any place to enter the state or Federal taxes that were withheld from your unemployment, then the information that you entered is probably in the wrong place and it should be deleted.

To enter a Form 1099-G reporting unemployment, use these steps:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “unemployment” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to unemployment
  • Click on the blue “Jump to unemployment” link to get started
