What should I do if TurboTax doesn't have the form I need to claim a NY state credit on my state tax return?
(Printing out the return and mailing it in along with a copy of the form -- available online -- won't work, because one is not allowed to write or change anything on the return!)
Thank you very much.

Yay! You are welcome 🙂
It might help if you included which form it is that's needed that isn't available.
The form is IT-255 ("Claim for Solar Energy System Equipment Credit").
TurboTax does support the IT-255 form. On the page, 'Take a look at New York credits and taxes', select 'Installed Solar Energy Equipment in 2017' under the Your Home section.
Thank you for responding.
I saw that option. However, my solar panels were not installed in 2017 but in 2016. I pay rent on them, and IT-255 allows me to claim the amount I pay in rental fees each year as a credit for that year (up to $5000 total -- which will take a number of years to reach).
I still believe that you will enter it in this section. The section will ask for the date of installation and how you acquired the equipment (lease) and the costs attributable to 2017. Did you take the credit in 2016 and have carryover amounts?
You were right! It worked! For some reason it asked me different questions this time than when I tried it a few days ago -- this time, the questions were relevant to my situation.
I am very grateful to you, PaulaM!
