my wife only made $1,500 last yr, if I add it to our taxes it'll lower our tax return by $250, what happens if I dont claim it?

You need to include all income.  If you don't claim it, the IRS will send you a notice and adjust your tax return for you.  You will also owe interest and underpayment penalties, in addition to the taxes owed on that income.
