I get 10,000$/month disability insurance. I entered W2 info. But lawyer takes 1,800$ commission.. I only get 8,200$. Can I deduct that?

the yearly Disability Insurance payment, my only income, is: 120,000$/year. And that's the W2 I entered. But I only got 98,400$

Legal fees are not deductible on your federal return, but they may be deductible on your state return. They used to be deductible as Miscellaneous Deductions on Schedule A, but the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act eliminated those deductions.

You can still enter them in TurboTax and they will flow to your state return, if allowed by that state.

To enter the legal fees:

  1. On the Deductions & Credits screen, scroll down to the Other Deductions and Credits section.
  2. Click the Start box next to Legal Fees.
  3. Click the box Enter My Expenses.
  4. Enter the legal fees on the next screen.
