You do need to submit the Form 1096 with a copy of the Form 1099-NEC to the IRS. You can mail it in if you have the proper form or e-file it if you did it through TurboTax Quick Employer Forms or some other provider. It is due by January 31.

I e-filed 1099NEC - do I need to mail form 1096 to the IRS?

Thank you - I have efiled it so is it ok just to print out the 1099 NEC and add it to the 1096 and mail the 2? I am  confused because since I have efiled the 1099 NEC, why do I also have to print it out and mail it with form 1096? It seems duplicative

Per this TurboTax Help Article, if you electronically filed your Form 1099-NEC you do not need to mail anything to the IRS.  The Form 1096 is only necessary when you paper file Form 1099s.
