Thank you - I also had the x64 version installed but did a repair as you mentioned and now I can get back into my return.
Amazing work!! I had to troubleshoot this issue today and it worked. Thank You!!
This error may have been cuased when I installed Microsoft VS Code. I did install the redistributable as suggested. Eventually I could open my return. With some help form Turbox Tax support, I was able to efile my Federal return, and though I could not efile my state, I was able to pirnt and mail my state return.
This was the fix for the 70001a error. thank you.
How did you make this x64 change? thank you.
I just got this same error after it updated TT this morning (12/11/2025).
I finally got it to work by completely uninstalling TT and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2022.
This included any and all TT2025 in the directory. Note: I used Revo Uninstaller to do this. But, be careful that when it does a scan of anything left that you do not delete any other TT that you still have installed on your computer.
You should reboot computer after it completes the uninstalls.
I then went and download the most current TT from
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/install-turbotax/
Make sure you pick the right one.
When it did run it did not stop the Intuit Update Services (normally it would). I had to open Task Manager and stop it. Then TT completed the install.
I was able to open TT without any error and open the .tax2025 file that I had already started.
Just tested opening again. So far so good.
Will post back if the error comes back.
