If TurboTax won't accept your CSV file, proceed as follows.
Adjust your csv files so the columns are in the same order as on Form 8949.
Put a header with your name tax year and SS Number
Use the summary option and then you can mail in the printout of the CSV files.
See the TurboTax instructions that will pop up.
You would use Category C and/or F since you don't have a 1099-B.
At tax time, you have the option to summarize your transactions by Sales Category.
IRS requires Box C/F details to be listed on your own Form 8949,
or on your other forms (e.g. spreadsheets) which have the same information and in the same manner as Form 8949.
Either way, if you choose to summarize, you have to mail the transaction details to the IRS within three business days of IRS accepting your e-Filed tax return.
If I aggregate a crypto asset by sell date (with multiple buy dates) I still need to send IRS a printed CSV?
Yes, if aggregated in the CSV file. But why would you do that ?.
If you had one SELL in 2021, enter the transaction detail manually. If multiple lots, Date Acquired is "various".
If you had multiple SELLs in 2021, enter each manually and then no mailing is necessary. (TurboTax will attach Form 8949 for you.)
The summary option aka mail-in option is for a very large number of transactions.
I understand. The only issue is Turbotax allows only 75 lines as manual input, while 2200+ if crypto exchange csv file. Does that look fair?
"The only issue is Turbotax allows only 75 lines as manual input,"
If you run out of lines for one Box category, cycle through the other boxes and TurboTax will open another sheet for that first Box category.
That's how it used to work. I don't have TurboTax 2021.
