What is the validity of Power of attorney after you receive CAF ?
3 years from the notice date of CAF assigned?
If one wants to file 1040 for his mother online (mother is abroad) - what does he need to do in additional to filing online via turbotax?
One needs to attach POA copy every time with online return filing? or just copy of CAF notice should be enough?
How do we find validity of POA ?I have CAF notice but it does not say validity of POA ..and unfortunately can not find copy of POA that was submitted.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
On the Power of Attorney, you indicate for 3 Acts Authorized the tax forms and years. You can go three years forward of the current year. If your original authorization included the tax year and it is on file with the CAF unit, you do no have to re-submit the 2848 with the tax return (unless of course the 2848 was revoked).
But since we can't find POA that was submitted ..how can we find if that POA is still valid for year 2020 tax return?
CAF notice dat is in May 2018 so I assume we submitted 2848 - (POA) in or around April 2018.
You said max 3 years correct?
so can we assume that POA - 2848 is still valid?
Is there any other way to confirm the validity?
You can call and ask the IRS - 800-829-1040 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. Be aware, it's not easy to get through these days.
