Q re Net Investment Income and Form 8960

In the Estimated Taxes and Form W-4 Worksheet, I am looking for the source of the figure they show as Net investment income. The Data Source given is Form 8960 Part 3, line 12. However when I go to the Forms section there is no Form 8960. So how does TurboTax calculate Net Investment Income???

Q re Net Investment Income and Form 8960

An 8960 is for Net Investment income from Individuals, Estates and Trusts.

However, the source is based on what was entered into the estimated tax program.  I suggest you go back into the interview to identify the source of this income.

If you are trying to calculate Estimated taxes for next year:

  • Start at Other Tax Situations
  • Scroll down to Other Tax Forms
  • Choose Form W-4 and Estimated Taxes
  • Continue through the interview
