Presidential Election

The boxes for Presidential Election were " not checked " on my Joint Federal 1040.

Why not ???    Did I miss something ?    It's too late now .....tax forms submitted.

checking for current year is not automatic even if you checked them in the prior year. You missed the questions when going through the interview process.  you can always amend.

Next year, you can go directly to this question.

Go to Other Tax Situations->Other Return Info->Presidential Campaign Fund and when you click Start, the next screen will ask you about donating $3 for campaigns.

These funds have a lot of strings attached.  The last major party candidate to accept the funds was John McCain in 2008, and Obama (who did not take the funds) outspent McCain 9 to 1.  Fewer than 3% of taxpayers check the box these days.
