If this is for the California storm, some California TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop customers are experiencing an issue when trying to schedule the direct debit for their tax bill payment for a date later than April 18, 2023, despite the IRS having approved an extension for certain counties that were affected by storms in January.

Otherwise, you can e-file but don't enter that you want to do a direct debit from your bank account. Instead, enter that you'll pay by check. You can then pay your federal income tax online. Click here for the IRS Payments website.

Note: If you haven't paid all of the tax you owe by the filing deadline:
- You'll likely end up owing a late payment penalty of 0.5% per month, or fraction thereof, until the tax is paid.
- The maximum late payment penalty is 25% of the amount due.
- You'll also likely owe interest on whatever amount you didn't pay by the filing deadline.
