EXACTLY how long have you been in the United States?  What were you here for on your J-1 visa?

I suspect that you may be a "Nonresident Alien".  If that is the case TurboTax can not do that type of tax return, and you would need to go to a tax professional.

Your employer will mail your 2016 W-2 to you by Jan 31, 2017. You cannot file until you receive it, and not until at least Jan. . Also see this:
