My client and his wife misunderstood the HSA contribution limits and both of them contributed max to each of the HSA accounts.  She had a high deductible family plan health coverage for herself and two sons.  She contributed $7750.  The husband had a high deductible self only plan.  He contributed $3839.

My clients agree that they overfunded the two accounts but shouldn' the overfunding amount be $3839?  Turbotax calculates $7750 and calculates a penalty on i
