I just started a new job and never filled out a w-4 form. it was done for me. i got my first paycheck and only medicare taxes were taken out. It says i am exempt from FICA taxes, but i dont know why I would be? I dont work for a gov agency etc. How can I make sure to get those taxes taken out of my pay check?

Ask your employer why you are exempt from Social Security tax.
Are you a student employed by the school that you attend?
Are you a nonresident alien? What type of visa do you have?
What type of work do you do? Do you work for a company? Are you a household employee?
FICA includes both Social Security tax and Medicare tax. If your employer says you are "exempt from FICA taxes," ask them why they withheld Medicare tax. Normally you either pay both Social Security and Medicare, or neither.
Are you sure that the deduction from your pay was Medicare tax, and not something else, such as medical insurance?
