NJMedicaid for adult son and tax dependent in IRS

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 13.0px Helvetica}

My son, 35 years old has NJFamilyCare Medicaid since he has no income. Till 2016, I was declaring him as my dependent on IRS tax return since he lives with us. Can I continue claiming him as a dependent in 2017 without impacting his Medicaid eligibility? As I understand from someone, NJFamilyCare has changed regulation and if adult son is declared as a dependent in IRS, then my income has to be considered for his eligibility. If that is the case, I will rather let him file as an independent IRS tax return instead of claiming him as a dependent. My income is more than 138% than FPL.

Yes, NJ Family Care would consider your income if you claim him as a dependent. This isn't a tax question, but here is the information from NJ Family Care. See the note at the bottom of the page regarding family size, and any tax dependent living in the home. You could also verify this by contacting NJ Family Care.
