My taxable income is zero with $0 tax liability. I paid $8 and yet TurboTax says I owe $65. Why would I have to pay taxes when my liability is zero?

Do you have any income from self employment like a 1099-NEC?

You may owe a tax other than income tax.  For example, if some of your income is from self-employment, then you may owe self-employment tax, as mentioned by Bsch4477.

Take a look at your Form 1040 line 23 for the total of your other taxes.  Then see Form 1040 Schedule 2 to learn what the amount on line 23 represents.
