My son was living in Queens, NY in 2017 which is part of NYC taxes, but moved to Long Island in 2018. He forgot to tell his employer that he moved so NYC taxes contined to be taken from his paycheck. How does he enter his information in Turbotax? It asks your residency and he put Long Island, but a warning came up that he had NYC taxes and is being asked how many months did he live in NYC to justify the taxes. How does he respond? Should he put 100% Long Island even though NYC taxes were taken out or should he put that he lived in NYC for part of the year to justify the taxes taken?

Since he did not live in Queens, you want to report that there was no Queens income, no residence and get a refund.
