my employer is out of business and unreachable and i didn't get my w2. my former co-workers said they got theirs so I know they were produced. how do i locate a copy?

you can get a transcript from the IRS, but it will not have state info if you need it

W-2. Here are some steps you can take to locate a copy:

Access your IRS account: You can view your tax records, including transcripts, through your IRS online account

  • This is the fastest way to get your wage and income transcript, which includes information from your W-2.

2.  Contact the IRS for assistance: If you still can't get your W-2, you can call the IRS at 800-829-1040

  •  They can contact your former employer and request the missing W-2 on your behalf. You can also visit your local IRS office for in-person help,

Use Form 4852: If you can't get your W-2 in time to file your taxes, you can use Form 4852, Substitute for Form W-2, to estimate your wages and taxes withheld
