Minimize interest on underpayment of California estimated taxes

I made estimated tax payments for California in Apr and Jun 2024 that turned out to be too low for my forecasted 2024 taxes.  Does it help if I make a payment now instead waiting until January when the next estimated payment is due? (will it reduce the interest charged on the underpayment).  My AGI will exceed $1M so I am expected to pay at least 90% of the tax due.
