Military only pays for partial mileage. How to claim.

I drive 180 miles each way to my military reserve site. I get reimbursed 160 miles each way. Military uses a Government distance calculator that measures from the edge to edge of zip codes to determine distance. But this shorts me 20 miles each way. Can I claim these unreimbursed miles when the total is greater?

Thanks

Hi @mattie3 ,

Thank you for your service,  you may be able to deduct the mileage by filling out form 2106 Employee business expenses.  I an attaching the IRS guide for this, scroll down to the section labeled, "How to report my reserve related travel expenses".  This will give you the guidance on how you can claim the extra mileage.

All the best!
