Maximum earnings for ssi benefits

My sister has an intellectual developmental disability since birth. She is claimed as a dependent, receives ssi benefits and has a small job at a dry cleaners.

1) How much can she earn at her job before interrupting her benefits?

2) does she have to file taxes?

Maximum earnings for ssi benefits

There are two situations you have.

  1. The amount  she can make or earn before here benefits are interrupted can only be answered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) or possibly a case worker.
    1. Contact SSA by Phone
  2. There can be two reasons to file a tax return for your sister.
    1. There is federal and/or state withholding and she can file for a refund of those taxes if she is not required to file.
    2. If she is required to file.  The income levels are show in the link below, but for a single person, under age 65, a return must be filed when taxable income is at least $12,950.
