Ive never filed separately and it's recommending it, have you switched before?

It's recommending it as we would get more back filing separately.  Ive just never switched before.

Although normally, it is better for married couples to file Jointly, there are instances when Married Filing Separately is a better option. 

For example, filing separately may be a benefit if you have a large amount of out-of-pocket medical expenses. It may be easier to reach the 7.5% threshold of your adjusted gross income to qualify for medical deductions if you only claim one income.
